This is a good image — I have to give talks roughly once a week and it is helpful to have tools to keep rhetoric in tune with the audience.

One thing I’ve been able to confirm (and is shown by research somewhere…don’t remember the source at the moment) is that the average listener is able to engage with content for approximately 5 minutes at a time — so every five minutes you have to re-instill engagement. Same can be said with writing, I suppose (but probably with different parameters).

This principle can be used in conjunction with that to keep an audience in tune with your content.
